Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) Project

The Ministry of Home Affairs developed the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) Project in 2009 to link all police stations under a single application software for investigation, data analytics and providing citizen services. The Common Integrated Police Application (CIPA) project has been overseen by the Ministry of Home Affairs since 2004 as part of the “Ministry of State Police Forces (MPF)” effort. National Crime Records Bureau information (NCRB)

  • The National Crime Records Bureau, a subsidiary office of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, was established in 1986 to offer information technology solutions and criminal intelligence to the Indian Police so that they may successfully enforce the law.
  • In 1971, the computerization of police organisations in India started. NCRB first introduced CCIS in 1995, then CIPA in 2004 and CCTNS in 2009. Additionally, NCRB helps several States build their capability in the fields of digital forensics, network security, and CCTNS through its training centres in Delhi and Kolkata. Through more than 877 training programmes, NCRB has taught 16172 officers in total, including law enforcement personnel from other countries.
  • The Central Fingerprint Bureau, a division of the NCRB that serves as a national repository for all fingerprints in the country, was established in 1955. It provides a search option on FACTS and has a database of more than one million ten-digit fingerprints of offenders (both those who have been arrested and those who have been convicted) (Fingerprint Analysis and Criminal Tracing System).
