FAQs of E-Aadhaar
1. What is e-Aadhaar?
e-Aadhaar is a password protected electronic copy of Aadhaar. It is digitally signed by the competent Authority of UIDAI.
2. Is e-Aadhaar equally valid like physical copy of Aadhaar?

3. How to validate digital signatures in e-Aadhaar?
Computer must be connected to internet while validating digital signature. The following steps should be followed:
a. Right click on the ‘Validity Unknown’ icon and click on ‘Validate Signature’.
b. You will get the signature validation status window, click on ‘Signature Properties’.
c. Click on ‘Show Certificate’.
d. Verify that there is a certificate path named ‘NIC sub-CA for NIC 2011, National Informatics centre’. This identifies ‘NIC sub-CA for NIC 2011, National Informatics centre’ as the owner of the digital certificate that has been used when signing the document.
e. Mark the certificate path named ‘NIC sub-CA for NIC 2011, National Informatics centre’, click the ‘Trust tab’ and then ‘Add to Trusted Identifies’.
f. Answer OK to any security question that follows.
g. Check (√) the field for ‘Use this certificate as a trusted root’ and click OK twice to close this and the next window.
h. Click ‘Validate Signature’ to execute the validation.
4. What is the password of e-Aadhaar?
The password of e-Aadhaar is the combination of the first 4 letters of name in CAPITAL and the year of birth (YYYY). Example: Name: Ranjit Singh; Year of birth: 1990; Password: RANJ1990.
5. How can e-Aadhaar be downloaded?
e-Aadhaar can be downloaded by the following two ways:
a. By using Enrollment Number: e-Aadhaar can be downloaded by using 28 digit enrolment number along with Full Name and Pin Code. In this download process, OTP will be received on registered mobile number. TOTP can also be used instead of OTP to download e-Aadhaar. TOTP can be generated using mAadhaar mobile Application.
b. By using Aadhaar Number: e- aadhaar can be downloaded by using 12 digits Aadhaar Number along with Full Name and Pin Code. In this download process, OTP will be received on registered mobile number. TOTP can also be used instead of OTP to download e-Aadhaar. TOTP can be generated using mAadhaar mobile Application.
6. From where e-Aadhaar can be downloaded?
e-Aadhaar can be downloaded by visiting UIDAI website – https://uidai.gov.in/ or https://eaashaar.uidai.gov.in
7. What is Masked Aadhaar?
Mask Aadhaar is an option which allows to mask the Aadhaar Number in the dowmloaded e-Aadhaar. Masked Aadhaar number implies replacing of first 8 digits of Aadhaar number with some characters line “xxxxx-xxxx” while only last 4 digits of the Aadhaar Number are visible.
